“I wish I had your willpower.”
A friend remarked this, in response to my Joyful Cleanse announcement.
As flattered and humbled as I am by her openness and readership of my blog, I must disagree with her choice of words because although I am, indeed, quite structured and disciplined, I do not interpret my actions as a power. My actions are simply hard work. Hard work to achieve my happiness, a state that involves valuation of cleanliness. Cleanliness of the body, environment, and life.
Ayn Rand put it best:
“Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose of your life, and that happiness—not pain or mindless self-indulgence—is the proof of your moral integrity, since it is the proof and the result of your loyalty to the achievement of your values.”
Carrie Bradshaw put it second best:
“Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”
So this is why I did my cleanse. Because achievement of my happiness is my moral purpose. And I want to love me deeply. I want to be fabulous now and fabulous when I’m 81. The cleanse just made sense. Having been going strong since 3:30am, I shall make this cleanse wrap-up short because we want to zen-out and enjoy the last few moments of our delightful three-day experiment!
Our second juice of the day, cashew vanilla cinnamon agave, was MUCH needed at 7am. My body craved the “protein.” Needed it. This juice is the one that tastes like a MILKSHAKE. It’s simply amazing and shall make regular appearance in my diet going forward. Better than a cookie. I swear.
And I only drank half because I wanted the pleasure later, too.
Having seven minutes to breathe off of the yoga mat, I ventured into Whole Foods for tomorrow’s food. Touching the apples gave me a sensation that I’ve never felt before. Mind you, I’ve never gone without solid food for this length in my life. So even touching the apple drove me wild. I imagine this is true for any long period of abstinence from something good.
I will have the apple and raw nut bar for breakfast. The tofu burrito for lunch, with apple. The other tofu burrito for dinner, with salsa. And a martini. 🙂 Remember I mentioned a Thursday dinner? We’ve canceled it because the weather’s too cold, and we can’t bring our DOGS. Speaking of which, the broccoli below is for HER. 🙂
After I drank my second half of the morning milkshake (turned afternoon milkshake!), Gwendolyn partook in the juicing experiment. She’s been quite the active participant.

I sometimes change my clothes mid photo shoot because I’m a fashion girl and like different looks. Both pictures feature cutie bootie yoga trunks by Alô.
Here is dolphin pose. One of my favourite simple shoulder openers. Good for swimmers. To do this, find a downward facing dog. Then drop forearms to ground. Press wrists to elbows firmly into ground. Draw chest toward legs. Breathe.
And time for our final juice.
We are so happy with this experiment.
